If it never seems like you never get enough holidays to satisfy your inner traveler, you probably aren’t alone. There are some ways, however, that you can maximize your vacation time without begging your boss for extra time off…here’s how:
This first one is kind of a no brainer but make sure you pair your vacation days with weekends in order to maximize the length of your trip.
The same goes for stat holidays and long weekends. Take advantage of three-day weekends by leaving for your destination right after work on the day before the holiday, instead of waiting to leave until the next morning.
Another option is to stay local. Unfortunately, when you work all week, it’s easy to stay home and catch-up on chores and errands. But if you make a pledge to set aside a weekend for fun, this can be a great plan.
Pack your bags on Thursday night so you’ll be ready to go as soon as the workday ends on Friday. Minimize your time spent in transport by picking a destination that’s easy to get to, whether it’s a nearby town or an attraction in your own city that you’ve yet to visit. And do some research about the destination before you go so you can hit the ground running as soon as you arrive.
And you might want to consider rolling over existing vacation days to next year if you can. This is best if you are planning on taking an extended trip where one week or even two will not suffice.
If you travel for work you can also try adding days onto a business trip to make the most of your journey. Tack on an extra day or two so you can explore the city you are in or stop somewhere else in between that you are interested in visiting.
You might even be able to find a cheaper flight home which will make your employer happy.
Another option, which won’t be ideal to some, is to work remotely if you have the ability. If your job allows you to work if you have an internet connection, this means you could technically work anywhere in the world. If your boss goes for it, it’s better than not getting to travel at all!
So there are some creative ways to get the most out of your vacation time!
