There are a few steps you can take to make your experience at Vancouver International Airport run a bit smoother, whether you’re coming or going.

For departing travellers, there are a couple of methods that require a bit of planning, that will help you save time.

Domestic and U.S.-bound passengers can avoid the security line-up and schedule a specific time to go through screening through the recently expanded YVR Express Program.

This initiative allows passengers to book a time slot up to 72 hours before their flight.

Travellers can simply go online to schedule a spot and receive a QR code.

Then when they arrive at the airport and check their bags, they can go to security within 15 minutes of their reservation time and avoid the standard queue.

Passengers flying to the United States can also save time going through U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

They offer the opportunity to gain pre-clearance by submitting your personal info and customs declaration digitally through the Mobile Passport Control app.

No need to stop at the electronic kiosks. All of it can be done in the palm of your hand.

No pre-approval is necessary to download and use the app, but users must create a profile, with their passport and citizenship info ahead of their trip.

When they are ready to travel, they can go on the app, snap a selfie and answer some inspection-related questions. They’ll receive a QR code.

Once they reach the customs hall, they can use a designated processing lane where an agent will scan the code and check their passport.

For families travelling together, single households only need to submit one form through the app.

Now, for travellers who are arriving at YVR, there’s a way to make the Canadian customs process a bit more efficient.

Passengers can submit their customs form digitally using the ArriveCAN app’s Advanced Declaration feature.

And much like the U-S Mobile Passport Control app, ArriveCAN users will receive a QR code to present to a customs officer for final inspection. No requirement to visit a kiosk.
