Canadians Prioritizing Travel

Despite the financial pressures of increased living costs, taking a vacation is still a priority for most Canadians.

That’s according to the seventh annual Vacation Confidence Study, conducted by Ipsos on behalf of travel insurance provider - Allianz Global Assistance.

A third of respondents have not taken a vacation in over two years. Still, overall 72 percent people polled say taking an annual vacation is important to them. Seven in ten are planning to set off on a vacation in 2024. But most are being budget conscious about their trips. Of those who are planning to travel, 68 percent will be scaling back on their plans because of inflation. On a brighter note, the survey finds that more Canadians 55 and older are feeling more confident in their intentions to travel this winter.

It’s been a slow recovery over the past few years with this age group exercising more caution with cross border travel, but the responses suggest many more snowbirds will be flying south in 2024.

According to this study, travel volumes amongst Canada’s 55-plus-set are expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels.
