Millennial’s are Traveling
It’s been a long couple of years of waiting and Millennials are certainly ready to travel once again, with many prepared to splurge on special experiences. However, not everyone is quite ready to jump aboard a trans-oceanic flight.
According to a recent study by PayPal Canada, a whopping 97 percent of the Millennials surveyed are planning to travel in North America this year, with a quarter planning to stay within our borders.
Ontario, BC, and Alberta top the list of provinces this group of 26- to 42-year-olds will be exploring.
As for how they are planning their trips and what they’re choosing to spend their money on, this generation is certainly savvy.
Nearly six in ten Millennials are acting as their own travel agent, taking the time to curate and coordinate the ultimate unique experience for themselves.
Keen to keep costs down, 85 percent of respondents say sales and discount codes are important when it comes to booking experiences or buying essentials for a getaway.
In fact, keeping vacation spending in-check is a real priority. Although nearly half of those surveyed are prepared to splurge, but they are being mindful. 82 percent of the people polled say inflation will impact their dream getaway this year with 16 percent ranking budget management as their top travel finance concern, that puts the issue above changing plans due to COVID-19 (13%).
When it comes to making memories, there was a wide range of responses that show why travel can really open your eyes to something new.
40 percent of those surveyed have met a significant other or forged a long-term friendship.
More than a quarter experienced the wonders of nature, like seeing the Aurora Borealis or witnessing a bird migration pattern.
Nearly the same number have taken part in a local festival or celebration.
16 percent say they fell in love with a destination they visited and wound up moving there.
Suffice it say, it’s no wonder this generation is ready wander again, and reignite that passion for discovery and connection, away from home.
