Late Summer, Early Fall Travel Trends

Even after a chaotic summer of delays and flight cancellations, brought on by staffing shortages, luggage system breakdowns and unrelenting weather challenges, Canadians have NOT lost their urge to travel.

According to the latest report from Expedia, international travel searches are on the rise.

Canadians have been searching for accommodations abroad in August and September a whopping 235 percent more than they were this time last year,

Back in 2021, most of the emphasis was still on domestic travel. But with testing and quarantine requirements easing, we’re seeing a 180 when it comes to overseas and cross border travel in 2022.

Another big attraction for Canadians are package travel deals that simplify the booking process.

Expedia’s data shows that bundled products, that include flights and hotels, are increasingly popular as well. Searches for those types of packed travel options have surged 175 percent compared to September and August of last year.

There’s another trend emerging, that differs from 2021 - and that’s last-minute bookings.

As we’ve all experienced in recent months, we still have to expect the unexpected when it comes to navigating covid-19 and staying healthy and protected.

So, it’s not that surprising that people are planning ahead even less than they did in 2021.

Travellers are shortening their windows, with a 15 percent increase in the number of searches set just a month out of their intended date.
